Contemporary impasto oil painting rendering a traditional croft and loch scene in rich color with a modern aesthetic, by British artist Charles Wyatt Warren (1908-1993). Mountains with reflections in the loch, dates to mid to later 20th century and is titled 'High Meadows' of Caernarvon. Following work by Scottish Colourist and post-impressionist artworks, this work by Wyatt Warren has real depth of paint and color, demarcating areas of blues, brilliant yellows and rich greens. The mountains stand proud of the canvas, with softer reflections in the water. The traditional white croft defines the painting as rural British/Scottish.
Wyatt Warren is known for his landscape paintings in and around his home by Caernarvon. Many of his works are wide landscapes, such as this one, but are often more traditional in style. This one stands out among his works with more contemporary freshness and style. Oil on board, the board holds the thickness of impasto paint that gives this work its depth.
About 19.5" by 40.5", this stands out across a room. The color stands against the simple contemporary off white frame. This will be noticed!

Charles Wyatt Warren
Charles Wyatt Warren (1908-1993) was a self-taught painter and an enthusiastic supporter of the arts in North Wales. He painted the breath taking scenery around his native Snowdonia in the impasto, palette knife sculpted style of the North Welsh school made famous by its master, the late Sir Kyffin Williams.

Train was a British artist, painting mostly landscapes in northern England and, like this one, in Scotland. The painting is signed E. Train (lower left) and dated 1850 or 1856, the last number being too faint to be certain. From 1850 to 1880 Train flourished as an artist, but his work was exhibited in galleries in northeastern England and Edinburgh from the 1830s. Born in Gateshead, Tyneside, Train left to take an apprenticeship with a London engraver. In the 1830s Train traveled with an expedition to the Hebrides and Shetland Islands. Here he became fascinated with the Scottish scenery that would become part of his repertoire of landscape art. Loch Awe lies in the west of Scotland in Argyll and Bute. Kilchurn Castle, built in the 16th century, lies on a peninsula inside the Loch, on the water's edge. Train would have traveled to the Highlands and painted the dramatic scene from the east banks of Loch Awe, across from the Castle. This painting captures the Highland mountains, loch and castle that was very much the ouevre of this artist's work.
